Started a blog, or thinking about it? Well, I just wanted to take a moment to share why and how I got started on my blog, Verity and the Very.
I have worked in fashion retail for pretty much my whole career life. When I started working for House of Fraser managing their Product Knowledge Training I started to work on some amazing projects, and I wanted a way to share my life and work experiences.
After reading other blogs, and knowing I loved writing, I finally launched it in September 2016.
What really helped me with that kick start, was the encouragement from my team at work and my boyfriend.
Looking back they were such an amazing support network and they would indulge my many conversations.
Don’t be afraid to talk it, you’ll be amazed at how much support you’ll get.
I went into blogging not really knowing a lot, and honestly, I’m still such a novice at this. However, I hope after 8 months I can share some advice, or at the very least share what I’ve done. Even if it helps just one of you lovely readers I’ll be happy!
I have just launched my new website and as I said I still have a long way to go, but you learn everyday with blogging. It easily could be full time work on top of your other full time commitments so my biggest lesson has been to not beat myself up over not being the best or getting anywhere fast.
You have to give yourself time to develop and as life throws many curve balls which can also effect your blogging game, just remember that’s fine. If anything, it will make your content richer if you have clearer direction in the end. So don’t be afraid to take a break, change your niche or rebrand yourself, it’s all part of the fun.
•Newsletters– I’ll be using mailchimp plugin to send newsletters. Updates on the blog and overall life adventures. I sometimes enjoy reading people’s newsletters over blog posts so this is a great way to engage your audience
•Pinterest – lately it’s all been about Pinterest and how much traffic it can drive. But for me, it feels like learning science and maths all over again. Pinterest is an technical! I’m just reading up on how to build my Pinterest account
•Scheduling my diary for posts – as I said before blogging is fun but can sometimes feel a huge commitment to keep on top of. I seem to be able to manage one social media account and then the other drops off. There are so many scheduling apps these days to help you out so you don’t have to worry about posting all time. Just set them up on a Sunday and your good to go!
Its all about ticking things off at your own pace for me. Make whatever you do the #thevery xx
