Each season we find ourselves swooning over key items. Pieces, colours, prints and fabrics drip feed throughout the seasons months, that we all get excited about and find ourselves rushing out for.
Due to a little project at work we are working on, I’ve found myself lusting over saddle bags and the wide leg crop trouser.
I have been on the search for some wide leg crop trousers for a while, but struggling because of the bump. I found an old pair that fit around the belly, but not quite the perfect style i desire. There is a fine line between a wide leg crop trouser and culottes, and the ones i have cross over that line. However, for the time being they will have to do.
It has been around for a few seasons, however, it’s still very much a key essential for this SS17. You may have seen the likes of Michael Kors, Chloe and Mulberry rocking it down the catwalks. It’s certainly where House of Fraser has taken inspiration from.
What makes the saddle bag new for this season? Slightly more structured shapes that offer a more formal edge.
#Thevery pick has to be the Biba bag. It has a lovely combination of both suede and leather mix. It’s embossed with the iconic Biba logo on the front panel and the lining also showcases the logo. Its finished with strong hardware, which is also a key feature for the season. Great functionality with the multi gusset and I have managed to get a lot in here without it looking overloaded. I personally love the tan. I’ve never actually had a tan bag before. I know right? But I find it goes with everything. It really makes an outfit pop! If you are not a fan, it also comes in Black and a stunning blush tone. Again perfect for the season.
Culottes have been around for the last few seasons but this staple piece has been adapted to have a slightly slimmer leg that sits just above the ankle. I’ve been searching for a pair for a while now and there are lots of summer fabrics out there. Linens, silks and the more casual fabrics in cotton. What I love about crop trousers is how you can really create different looks with them. What is also great is how you can transfer them from your summer wardrobe to autumn just by wearing them back with little ankle books instead of those cool sandals/sliders/flip flops… its an endless choice of looks!
Just like the midi skirt they are a great choice for those wanting to show just a little leg, and with the right heels they will also elongate the legs making them a flattering choice. Don’t be fooled, you don’t have to wear a tight top to balance out the wide bottoms. Its not the only option, despite what others might say. Experiment with different tops. I really like long-line knitwear options that can either be tucked in or worn out.
#Thevery pick are these Maison De Nimes Crop trousers. If it wasn’t for the bump I’d be wearing these day in and out! They are only £39 and perfect for a more casual look with converse or little pumps. Pair them back with the matching top and a cute denim jacket for that on trend co-ordinated look. Perfect for the summer season in a linen fabric, and finished with a cute waist tie detail.
What are your summer staples this year? I will be sharing more of my essential key pieces over the next few weeks, and I am always on the look out for inspiration so let me know! Have a good evening and make sure its the #thevery xx
